Who’s got their eyes on the prize? It’s time to reveal which TV favourites will be heading to The Hilton On Park Lane on Monday 8th September, as the shortlist for the TVChoice Awards 2014 is unveiled.

Quick-witted comedy star David Mitchell makes his TVChoice Awards debut to host the ceremony, the prestigious event that traditionally kicks off the awards season.

In the Best New Drama category, Happy Valley is a strong contender, and its star Sarah Lancashire is vying for the Best Actress prize. Meanwhile, when it comes to Best Actor, could Downton Abbey’s Allen Leech beat former winners David Tennant and Benedict Cumberbatch to scoop a gong for the perennially popular show, which is among our Best Drama Series nominees?

As for the Best International Show, last year’s winner The Big Bang Theory again makes the list. But Sheldon and his pals are going to have a fight on their hands with the much-talked about Game Of Thrones also in contention for the award.

There’s bound to be heated debate when it comes to the hottest cooks on the box. Former winners could be lifting the trophy again, with Gordon Ramsay’s Home Cooking and The Hairy Bikers’ Asian Adventure on the shortlist. Will Mary Berry Cooks see the Bake-Off star enjoy a solo triumph? Or will James Martin be taking the prize back to his Saturday Kitchen?

It’s been another cracking year in soapland, with plenty of gripping storylines keeping us glued to our seats. In Hollyoaks, Maxine and Patrick’s Domestic Abuse was a talking point, while EastEnders fans debated Who Killed Lucy Beale? And while Emmerdale watchers recovered from the aftermath of Killer Cameron and The Woolpack Siege, Coronation Street viewers bade farewell to a Weatherfield favourite with the moving drama of Hayley’s Cancer.

As for which show will grab the ultimate accolade – Best Soap – only the audience can decide.

Whoever triumphs on the night, you can be sure that showbiz’s brightest stars and major players will be there when The TVChoice Awards are handed out at The Hilton On Park Lane on Monday 8th September.

Editor-in-Chief of TVChoice and Total TV Guide, Jon Peake said: “This will be our 18th awards ceremony, and we are thrilled that it has become an unmissable event for Britain’s biggest stars. They know that the TVChoice Awards are always a special night – and a great chance to thank the loyal viewers who’ve put them on top.”
